HPA? What's the benefit? Is it easy to setup?

April 6, 2017

One of the questions we got asked very often is why would one adapt HPA (High Pressure Air) to their existing AEG or GBB platform? There are indeed a few obvious benefits to converting your gun to HPA which includes:

  1. Maintenance  Cost

  2. Robust

  3. One time setup

  4. Easy to sort after power source

  5.  Ability to setup different shooting modes (AEG only)

1. Maintenance costs

Once the HPA system has been setup correctly, all you need is to charge your small Li-po battery that controls the valve and charging your air tanks

2. Robust

Unlike standard AEGs with a zillion moving part, there's only one moving part inside the gun, which is the air valve that is controlled electronically with an ECU. GBB platforms on the other hand often suffers from gas leaks from magazines at either the inlet valve or the output valve, using an airline with an HPA system supplies air directly to power the action.

3. One time setup

Once you have set it up right, it would keep running as long as your battery and airline supplies.

4. Easy to sort after power source

Most countries with paintball venues often would have HPA tank fillup stations, so getting air is nothing difficult. The battery that powers the ECU would typically be a midget type 3.7V Li-po that are commonly found at RC hobby stores so that is easily sorted too, as long as you have the right plug and the corresponding charger.

5. Ability to setup different shooting modes.

Controlled by an ECU, HPA systems like Wolverine are often programmable to shoot at different modes and have very quick trigger responses, 3-round bursts, controlled rate of fire and controlled rounds for automatic fire are no longer a dream (not all AEGs have Mosfets out of the box so usually no 3-round burst or adjustable rate of fire).

F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: So I am going to build my own HPA system on my AEG platform, what do I need?

A: It's fairly simple you will need the following items to get yourself started

  1. Screw drivers and allen keys

  2. HPA engine (Wolverine Inferno in our case)

  3. Regulator (Wolverine regulators, either high pressure line or non-high pressure depending on your tank and regulator)

  4. Air tank

  5. 7.4V Li-po battery

Q: What is the Wraith system?

A: The Wraith System differs to traditional HPA systems, instead of using standard high pressure air, it could utilize 12g Co2 capsules which expands much quicker and is commonly found everywhere. The Wraith Co2 Stock adapts to standard M4 AEG platforms providing a mil-spec stock tube and removing the need to carry a huge tank with you, while the Wraith Co2 Adapter is mainly designed for the VSR-10 Bolt system but could also be used with the Storm Regulator InGrip.
