So guys, before you go and read nothing but the title and start posting me pictures of your G series pistol, I would actually highly recommend you read through this. This is not a slam piece aimed at people who like that particularly boxy pistol which seems all devoid of personality, but rather a thought experiment. Lets use this opinion piece to explore something greater than "why can't we just have airsoft Glocks".
I hope everyone knows that, with jokes aside, there are legitimate and legal reasons why there are no officially licensed airsoft Glocks. If you didn't know or are STILL confused as to why Tim and I are always making fun with the #NoSuchThingAsAnAirsoftGlock hashtag you might want to read this handy article our former colleague Food Rage wrote HERE. With this in mind, we need to stop. Stop asking for Glocks. There are so many complaints in the community "why is this gun so bad" or "why do the internals suck so much on that gun" or "why can't there be more upgrade parts for these guns". The answer is quite simple, producers and manufacturers are ONLY going to make upgrades for the product they feel has the most market share or user base.
I cannot count how many times I would have wished I could get a wider array of parts for a VFC VP9 or FNS9. Compared to whats currently out there for G series pistols, theres practically NOTHING for both of these. Do you, currently reading this, have a pistol that is NOT a G series? Chances are you have a high likely hood of NOT finding anything you can replace or upgrade that gun with. If this was any other industry, it would be unacceptable. But because everyone and their second cousin, three times removed wants an Airsoft Glock, people with anything else is just forgotten.
Why do people want an airsoft Glock? Its safe to say that a majority of airsoft players are drawn to it because their friends use it or that was just the first one that came to mind. There are times players use it because their favorite airsoft celebrity might use it as well, combined with seeing their montages, they might think "WOW! this gun is amazing!!" However, if you are just getting into airsoft or are not dedicated to building an exact kit of whatever military unit you want to go as to your next milsim game, I would highly recommend you try other guns too! Don't be tied down so quickly to one particular pistol platform just because Nov-Rich uses it, but give others a go, you might be surprised, there are ACTUALLY other pistols out there that are just as if not MORE fun to shoot.
If we look at any other industry, we see that people or companies had to move away from some things to push new developments forward. Look at how Apple ditched the old serial ports in favor of USB or more recently, how they ditched optical drives and you start to see other companies and manufacturers follow the same trend which moves the industry forwards to a faster and more digital landscape. Now think about that gun you always wanted or wanted to find upgrade parts for. If manufactures just stopped and made a conscious decision to products other pistols and support those platforms, I believe it will benefit the community in a big way. There will be a wider range of guns to choose from, its not going to be just another "G series pistol". People who complain about "just another AR" should be the same people who complain about "just another G series pistol".
Finishing off, I hope this thought experiment was something that can get you guys thinking. Honestly I own more G series pistols that I would care for BUT at the same time I also own a wide array of other pistols like the M&P, USP, and 1911s. Personally I would LOVE to have a Sig P320 and have it supported with other REALLY good internals but if we stay the course of how things are now, I highly doubt it will be any more than a novelty when it launches and if it breaks, better luck next time.
